Today’s business landscape demands flexibility, scalability and robust data security. To meet these challenges, businesses are increasingly turning to cloud solutions. Among them, hybrid cloud, which combines the best features of on-premises infrastructure and public cloud services, has become a popular choice.
The increasing digitization of economies around the world is putting pressure on business to adapt to the new reality. What sets digitally advanced companies apart is their flexibility and agility, which allows them to respond quickly to changing market conditions. This, in turn, often allows them to generate more revenue than the market average. How can you gain a competitive advantage in the market with technology? One answer is hybrid cloud and hyperconverged infrastructure.
The hybrid cloud allows you to combine the benefits of two worlds: the private cloud, i.e. the computing infrastructure located on the company’s premises, and the public cloud, offered by third-party providers. This approach allows you to significantly increase the flexibility of your own infrastructure, without sacrificing the highest level of security and maintaining full control over sensitive data. The hybrid cloud also allows IT costs to be optimized, thanks to the seamless transfer of workloads between the private cloud and the company’s own on-premises infrastructure, and the public cloud. This, in turn, means much greater flexibility thanks to scalability, which allows companies to adapt their IT infrastructure to changing requirements.
A hyperconverged infrastructure, HCI, is an extremely helpful solution in the pursuit of an optimal, flexible, secure and competitive digital environment. This modern approach to building IT infrastructure is essentially an integrated computing platform that combines computing power, storage and network resources. An example of such a solution is Lenovo ThinkAgile HCI, a complete implementation of hyperconverged infrastructure created by Lenovo in cooperation with Nutanix. It’s a ready-made, easy-to-deploy and easy-to-manage digital ecosystem that combines Lenovo’s high-performance servers powered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with Nutanix’s advanced software to manage computing power, storage and networking within a single, cohesive and integrated environment.
Companies investing in hybrid cloud and HCI have already gained a competitive advantage in the market. According to IDC’s latest report from January 2024, in which they surveyed 100 CIOs, on the use of hybrid cloud for business development in Romania, companies that have decided to invest more in IT infrastructure stand out for their increased rate of revenue generation. Among the most digitized companies in the Romanian market, as many as 24% reported double-digit revenue growth in 2023. In comparison, the corresponding percentage for all organizations was only 12%.
The move to hybrid cloud and hyperconverged infrastructure allows for increased flexibility to not only dynamically allocate IT resources according to the needs of a specific organization, but also allows for a significant increase in the level of automation and take advantage of new and rapidly evolving approaches to IT infrastructure management: AIOps. AIOps can be described as artificial intelligence standing guard over IT infrastructure. This relatively new approach to enterprise IT infrastructure management uses machine-trained algorithms and big data analytics to improve automation and streamline all IT processes.
The aforementioned IDC report highlights that the results of the research clearly show that using automation and AIOps to consolidate workloads is key to achieving infrastructure efficiency goals. Automation and AIOps are key to ensuring maximum efficiency in IT infrastructure. However, they are not the only benefits. There are more, as can be seen in the conclusions of the said report, showing that companies that have opted for automation and AIOps gain benefits in terms of better scalability, speed of operations, predictability of the market and business environment, quality of service and products, efficiency of operations or, finally, resilience to threats and changing market conditions.
Nevertheless, the report shows that most companies in the Romanian market have been slow to integrate their IT environments, taking a rather piecemeal approach to automation. This, in turn, is failing to see the real and measurable benefits of comprehensively managing the compute, memory and network resources that can be wielded within a scalable and standardized digital infrastructure, combining the advantages of hybrid cloud, HCI and artificial intelligence. Perhaps it’s high time to change that? There is no doubt that the hybrid cloud is the future of enterprise computing.
