Originally in love with journalism, PR and marketing, Beatrice Dumitrașcu, CEO of the Residential Division at One United Properties, has been in real estate for 19 years and her biggest challenge is to maintain the balance between what she has already built and “what is yet to come”.

Beatrice Dumitrașcu has a career of over 20 years in sales and marketing and she joined One United Properties in 2013, initially as a sales manager. She is currently responsible for managing the company’s largest premium residential sales portfolio.

“I started out like any other person who has to work hard in the beginning in order to grow, to be able to support myself and start my own family – which is what we all want”, said Beatrice Dumitrașcu, CEO of the Residential Division at One United Properties, during Forbes Power Breakfast.

She started working in high school and throughout college, changing several jobs along the way. But it helped shape her personality and set her on a path that would lead her to excellence.

“When the time came for me to find a job while in college – the college I obviously went to to escape math – I realized from my freshman year that I didn’t have a knack for writing. So, I started to study marketing, advertising, psychology – which, like journalism, seemed like a way out”, Beatrice Dumitrașcu added.

Later on, although she fell in love with PR and made a series of sacrifices to get a foot in the door of the industry, after the birth of her child she turned to sales. “My whole development is based on the fact that I had to work from a very young age”, she noted.

Beatrice Dumitrașcu is convinced that we cannot grow unless we give something to those around us. “And I give everything. I find it natural. I’m always trying to help the people in my team grow”, she added. At the same time, character is an essential part of a person’s career, and character cannot be changed by anyone.

“I am grateful to God that I have kept my character intact. We all know people who change once they become successful – not because they want to change, but maybe because it is in their nature. Only you can change your character, no one else can change you. But I managed to stay grounded, and I realized that, even though I want to excel, I don’t want to be like some people I don’t like”, Dumitrașcu explained.

Today, her biggest challenge is maintaining the balance between what she has accomplished so far and what comes next.

“Now my biggest challenge is to maintain the balance between what I have already built and what is yet to come – I operate on the principle that you should always be prepared for your next steps. I carefully consider my next steps well in advance and every day is a new challenge for me. I live from one challenge to the next. I cherish the fact that I like to build new things and I have been able to achieve excellence because, paradoxically, while it was all about the money in the beginning, it is no longer about the money now – and that is because I like what I have built so far. I like what I do”, Dumitrașcu pointed out.

She thinks that, if we treated our business like we treat our family, everything would be perfect. She also believes that leadership has no gender because every organization has the indelible imprint of the people who work there and each of them is “a cog in the wheel, just like I am”. One of the most important lessons she has learned throughout her career is that “sharing is caring”, and if a leader doesn’t have the ability to reach beyond their status, if they don’t know the people they work with, if they can’t be impartial, then they won’t be able to “grow anything”.

“We are all equal and we must make decisions based on each other’s opinions. I am not necessarily right every time”, Dumitrașcu concluded.
